RULES and REGULATIONS

1.  Enter ALL Beef Cattle on the Livestock Entry Form.

2.  Please note General rules that apply to the Beef Cattle.

3.  The decision of the judge is final.

4.  All cattle will be shown by age.

5  .If in the opinion of the Beef Cattle Committee, an exhibitor willfully violates any of the rules governing the fair, all premiums won by he/she will be forfeited.

6.  All cattle must have an approved Health Certificate signed within 30 days by an accredited veterinarian showing that the cattle are free from contagious diseases.  All out-of-state cattle must comply with interstate shipping regulations and have an approved Health Certificate.  Health Certificates will be checked by Show Superintendent or designee on Tuesday August 10, 2010 from 8:00 AM – Noon.

7  .All bedding will be provided by the Augusta County Fair.

8.  Exhibitor will be required to maintain their respective area in a reasonably clean and orderly condition at all times.Please leave stalls as you found them.Also keep aisles clean at all times.

9.  The storage of excessive hay, feed and straw will not be permitted in the barns.

10  .The assignment of stall and tack space will be made by the Beef Committee.

11.  No smoking in barns.

12.  No bull over 1 year of age will be allowed in the show-ring without a nose lead.

13.  All cattle must be shown by the exhibitor except when they have two entries per class; then another can show the animal.

14.  All cattle must be secured with a halter and neck tie.

15.  Exhibitors must make registration papers available to the Beef Committee.

16.  Only two animals per exhibitor will be allowed per class.

17.  Any animal which, in the opinion of the Beef Committee, constitutes a hazard must be removed from the grounds.

18.  Showmanship will be divided in to four divisions:   Novice (under 9 years of age and first time showing); Junior (9 – 11 years of age); Intermediate (12 – 13 years of age); Senior (14 – 19 years of age); ages as of September 30, 2010. 
 

19.  All registered cattle must abide by their respective association rules and regulations.

20.  All cattle must be halter broken to lead and tie.

21  .All feeder steers must be de-horned, castrated and healed.

22. Ownership deadline for cattle is August 8, 2009.

23. Beef Cattle shows are open to other states and Virginia counties.

24. Under 9 years of age can participate in the Pee Wee Calf Show.

25. Ownership is not required for the Showmanship classes.Animals may be borrowed at the show.

26.   If cattle numbers exceed capacity of barn, open cattle may be asked to come in later than August 10, 2010.

27.   ALL BEEF CATTLE SHOWN IN OPEN BEEF SHOW AND SHOWMANSHIP WILL BE SHOWN CLEAN AND DRY – NO ADHESIVES.

28.  ENTRY FEE: $5.00/Head/Class;   $5.00/Group/Class

29.   PREMIUM AWARDS: 1st$20.00, 2nd$18.00, 3rd$15.00, 4th $12.00, 5th $9.00.

\Section A:Youth Showmanship

A $50.00 Savings Bond sponsored by Sherando Ruritan Club will be given to the Champion and Reserve Champion Showman.

Class 1 – Novice – for first time showman

Class 1 – Junior Heifer Calves, born after Jan. 1, 2010.

Class 2 – Senior Heifer Calves, born between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31, 2009.

Class 3 – Intermediate Females, born May 1 to Aug. 31, 2009.

Class 4 – Junior Yearling Females, born Jan. 1 to April 30, 2009.

Class 5 – Senior Yearling Females, born Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, 2008.

Class 6 – Cow/Calf; must have natural calf at side.

Class 7 – Junior Bull Calves, born after Jan. 1, 2008.

Class 8 – Senior Bull Calves, born Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, 2009.

Class 9 – Intermediate Bulls, born May 1 to Aug. 31, 2009.

Class 10 – Junior Bulls, born Jan. 1 to April 30, 2009; no junior can

show a bull older than junior bulls.

Class 11 – Senior Yearling Bulls, born between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31, 2008.

Class 12 – Group of four animals (both sexes represented, owned by

one exhibitor).

Note: Steers will be weighed and divided into classes Tuesday August 10, 2010.Steers exhibited in Class 19 are not eligible to be shown as Market Steers.
